Spice Magazine Launch
The ultimate magazine "Spice" for the foodies of Western Australia and beyond is finally here!
The first edition for summer 2005 showcases the best from local producers, writings from well known local food identities, and of course the very famous Anthony Georgeff (aka Spicey), Perth's most awarded food blogger of "Man that Cooks" fame, and now Jackson's super chef to be.

Super chef is a fair way off, I'm aspiring to be able to find things in under five minutes in the cool room for now.
Great news for those of who come into WA often. It's high time there was a magazine for a great food-destination. Is it by the same blokes who publish Scoop?

On launch night it appears that Spice magazine is family-run judging by the introductions. Obviously a lot of hard work and dedication together with support from local businesses went into the magazine. The magazine appears subsciption based, with very little advertising.
It was amazing to make it to the launch at short notice expecting a few crackers and cheese attended by ladies of leisure from the influential western suburbs to discover a miniature food fair in progress with jazz band and a lively crowd of mixed demographics. It was a great evening with a tour of Comestibles cooking school (the venue), wood-fire pizza making and cooking, Christmas ham carving, gigantic prawns and quality lamb grilling on a HUGE frying pan which feeds 5000 according to one source, olive oil tasting, live yabbies on display, local wines, beautiful breads ....

We are proud to support the local food industry and the diversity of west coast food culture. This is the magazine WA food lovers have been waiting for. Not entirely family-run (although 2 of the 4 directors co-habit), but made by local food-lovers rather than magaziney types. It's a steep learning curve, but we're hoping the result is something people actually enjoy reading. The advertising will be there, but in strictly limited proportions.
